One of the largest residential neighborhoods in the country, Tampines is home to over 150,000 HDB flats, multiple malls, the largest convention and exhibition centre, and well-acclaimed academic institutions. It’s so easy to imagine how bustling the thriving district is, and it is only natural that the residents are spoiled with a massive number of choices for good food.
From the much-praised hawker fare to the ubiquitous cafes, you may never get to keep up with the delicious flare of options. We’ve sifted through the best dining spots that are truly memorable and worth the trip to the East, so you don’t have to.
1. I’m Thai Kitchen
Indeed there are many authentic Thai restaurants downtown, but I’m Thai Kitchen just exceeds all expectations. The closest you could get to the land of smiles right here in Tampines is their Kra Pao Moo/Gai , or stir-fried minced meat in basil ($5.90) of aromatic holy basil and perfumed with fish sauce and chili. Or, if you’re up for a big appetite, their Set meal of Tom Yum Paste (chicken/beef/pork), Tom Yum Seafood soup, and sambal kangkong is an absolute feast.
Address: 495 Tampines Ave. 5, Our Tampines Hub Hawker Centre #01-40, Singapore 529649
Hours: 11:00 AM – 10:30 PM Daily
2. L32 Handmade Noodles
When you discover that a noodle shop makes their own ban mian from scratch, you know this is something special. While there are a handful of handmade noodle eateries peppered across the country, L32 has managed to make theirs set apart from the rest. While the flagship store is in Geylang, you’ll be glad to know that the outlet in Tampines is on par with expectations.
Our favorite is the Dry Meatball Mian ($5.50) of al dente noodles, springy meatballs drenched in savoury sweet sauce, and a side of silky eggy soup. Bring your patience for the long queue.
Address: 10 Tampines Central 1, #01-60 Singapore 529536
Hours: 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM Daily
3. Three’s A Crowd
We got all sweet and giggled over the sweet treats at this favorite cafe famous for their freshly churned ice creams and baked goodies. The Churros Waffle ($8) is spiced up with cinnamon sugar coating, chocolate sauce, dark cocoa sprinkle, and toasted marshmallow and hits our sweetest spot instantly. Request a scoop of Roasted Pistachio Ice cream ($5) or take home a pint at $20.
You can also cut through the sweets with their savory selections like the Lasagna ($9.80) or the Fried Chicken Waffle ($12) that do not disappoint at all.
Address: 802 Tampines Avenue 4, #01-11, Singapore 520802
Hours: 11:00 AM – 10:30 PM (Sun-Thur), 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM (Fri, Sat)
4. Beef Bro
Imagine Mentaiko beef cubes sizzling in its fat under a blow torch and the smell of smokey, juicy, and tender beef wafts through the air. Beef Bro has established itself as the authority in blow-torched meats that are succulent and tasty. Choose from a selection of toppings such as mentaiko cheese, garlic chili, barbecue sauce, and sambal balacan that go well with each bite.
Address: 2 Tampines Central 5, #B1-38 Century Square, Singapore 529509
Hours: 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM Daily
5. Lawa Bintang
Indeed nasi lemak eateries are spread around the country, but it’s not that easy to spot the really good ones. And in this case, Lawa Bintang sets the bar high. What took our hearts big time is the Nasi Lemak Udang ($10.30) which may be a bit pricey but promises a whole new level of nasi lemak appreciation.
The fragrant rice is paired with juicy and sweet prawns brushed with spicy sauce and sides of sambal and crispy-fried egg. If you’re on a budget, the crispy Chicken Wing Nasi Lemak is also satisfying.
Address: 9008 Tampines Street 93, Singapore 528843
